Ransomware attack hits Banca di Credito Cooperativo (BCC)!

Banca di Credito Cooperativo (BCC) – one of Italy’s largest cooperative banks – has been hit by a ransomware attack allegedly carried out by one of the most aggressive gangs, the DarkSide gang. The attack “paralyzed” operations at 188 branches, causing serious problems for the bank’s customers, Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”. The newspaper also published a photo of a ransom note left by the hackers on the bank’s computers, claiming to be the DarkSide ransomware.

The Banca di Credito Cooperativo (BCC) attempted to downplay the incident, stating that the main cause of the problem is related to technical issues in the communication systems. The statement published by the bank calls on customers to use the ATMs or the “Home Banking” service, which, according to the bank, were not affected.

It is worth noting that so far Banca di Credito Cooperativo (BCC) has not been included in the list of victims of the DarkSide ransomware gang published on the site managed by hackers who leak the data they steal from their respective attacks. This may be due to the fact that the two sides may be in negotiations.
