Many residents of Texas and other parts of the US are experiencing problems with wireless network service on T-Mobile devices. The severe cold that has hit Texas and other parts of the US has caused problems with the mobile carrier's network , with Downdetector seeing more than 1,000 outage reports as of 1:00 PM ET.
T-Mobile acknowledged the issue later that afternoon. “ We are experiencing network issues following severe weather conditions in several areas of the country, and specifically across Texas, ” Ray Neville , the company’s president of technology, said on Twitter . Neville did not say when the carrier expected to resolve the outages. AT&T and Verizon (parent company of Engadget) appear to be experiencing similar problems, but their issues are not as widespread.
A Verizon spokesperson told Engadget that the company has had some minor issues due to the cold snap that hit the country. “Verizon’s network is performing well as winter storms move through the country with limited impact on our network operations,” the spokesperson said. “In the vast majority of locations, we have backup generators up and running and are on standby to resupply generators to ensure our network continues to serve our customers.” Some parts of fiber-optic are down, but the carrier says it has crews working to bring those parts back online.
The majority of T-Mobile's vacations appear to be concentrated in and around Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Texas is currently experiencing one of its coldest winters in decades, with temperatures below freezing in every part of the state.
The unexpected cold and snow have resulted in numerous problems in the infrastructure , leaving nearly 3 million customers without power as they try to stay warm.
