The modern disk management tool for Windows 10 is Microsoft's latest effort to migrate legacy tools to modern versions that are located in the Settings application.
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a new disk management tool that it describes as “modern” “snap-in” tool for Windows 10.

At least since Windows 95, users have had access to the diskmgmt.msc (Disk Management) tool to manage their disks, volumes, and partitions.
With the old Disk, you could extend the space of a specific partition, delete a partition, shrink a partition, or change its settings.

With the latest Insider preview builds, Microsoft introduced a modern alternative called the "Manage Disks and Volumes" utility, which has better integration with Storage Spaces settings.
To access the modern tool, you need to visit Settings > System > Storage and click on Manage Disks and Volumes.

With the new tool, you can also manage hard drives and the volumes/partitions they contain, but the current version is very limited and lacks many options.
Microsoft says you can use Modern Disk Management to view disk information, create, and format volumes.
You can also name the drives with letters of your choice, but unlike the classic disk management tool, the modern version cannot extend partition space or display the storage allocation in the form of a graphical representation.
