It is the first time that Trump's tweets have been labeled by Twitter as "potentially misleading." In turn, the American president blamed the social media platform and described the move as election interference.

Twitter said Trump's tweets about voting did not violate the company's rules because they did not directly discourage people from voting that way. But the company said the labeling provided context for Trump's claims.

"These tweets contain potentially misleading information about the voting, and have been flagged to provide citizens with additional context for voting by mail. This decision is consistent with the approach we shared earlier this month," Katie Rosborough, a spokeswoman for the company, told CNN Business .

While the social media platform was intended to provide a framework for Trump's reporting, it doesn't guarantee that there won't be backlash. The unprecedented move will likely spark more debate about Twitter's willingness to flag other posts by Donald Trump that have been labeled misleading by outside sources.

Her husband, Timothy, told the story in a letter to Jack Dorsey , the CEO of Twitter. The letter was made public on Tuesday, with Timothy asking Dorsey to remove tweets Donald Trump's

I ask you to take action this time, because the president of the United States has taken something that does not belong to him, the memory of my dead wife, and used it for political gain.“.

Immediately after his posts were flagged , Trump said that Twitter was “ interfering in the 2020 presidential election ” and “ impeding free speech .” He also stressed that he would not let this continue .
