Adam Todd, CEO of digital currency trading platform Digitex, has acknowledged a massive breach of personal data for up to 8,000 users, blaming a disgruntled former employee for being the hacker.
“Up until a point we only knew the email data that had been ‘taken’. With the second breach, however, we are very sorry to say that the sensitive data of many users has been compromised,” Digitex said in a statement today, adding: “Again, this was not a simple hack but was orchestrated by the same person who carried out the previous intrusion.”
Since the details were leaked on Telegram, Decrypt reached out to the hacker and asked him what really happened. As it turns out, the “Digileaker” claims he’s not even an investor, let alone a former staff member.
The hacker, who wished to remain anonymous , stated that while the aforementioned former employee may exist, he has absolutely nothing to do with the security.
“I am not a former employee or contractor or anyone else from Adam or Digitex’s past who for some specific reason wanted to harm the company. If they think I am a former employee, that means they have no idea how the hack happened and that worries me. But since it’s not my problem, I’m safe,” the hacker said.
