The deadly coronavirus outbreak, which first broke out in the Chinese and spread to most of the country, has gripped the world for the past month. Already, 2,000 people have lost their lives and 75,000 have been infected with the virus.
The epidemic has caused huge losses to China's economy, forcing many of the country's major companies to halt production. And now the virusis causing major tech companies to postpone OS updates.
Xiaomi MIUI 11 update postponed
Xiaomi regularly releases beta builds for users who have signed up for the MIUI 11 beta program. However, according to Piunikaweb, the latest version (MIUI 11 beta 20.2.19) has been delayed longer than usual.
But even when it was finally released, several Xiaomi did not receive it. In a press release, Xiaomi says that the coronavirus outbreak is to blame for the update not reaching all devices, including the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro, Mi 9, Mi 8, Redmi K20 Pro, Mi 6, Redmi K30, Redmi K30 5G, Mi 10, and Mi MIX 2S.
The company says that the update for the Mi 9 and Redmi K20 Pro is in the process of being created, while the Redmi K30 update is postponed because it is not possible to test it.
However, Xiaomi promises to release the updates in the coming weeks.
FuntouchOS 10 update postponed
Vivo is another Chinese company facing setbacks following the outbreak. The smartphone has delayed the release of its FuntouchOS 10 update, which is based on Android 10.
As the company stated on Weibo, after canceling its plans to release the update in February, the public beta version of FuntouchOS 10 will be released at the end of March.
The first Vivo devices to receive the FuntouchOS 10 beta are the NEX 3, NEX 3 5G, NEX S, NEX Dual Display, X27, and X2 Pro.
Google has launched the first developer preview of Android 11for Google Pixel devices. Meanwhile, Vivo devices are still running Android 9 Pie, which is two versions ahead of the current Android. The delay in the release of FuntouchOS 10 is certainly disappointing news for Vivo users, who have been waiting for the new version of Android 10 for quite some time.
