Microsoft Edge Stable: Microsoft has just released a preview build of its Chromium-based Edge to the Edge Insider website. The new version is closer to the final version of Microsoft Edge that will be officially released in January.
At today's Microsoft Ignite 2019 conference, Yusuf Mehdi, vice president of Microsoft's Modern Life, Search and Devices division, said that Microsoft Edge will officially launch on January 15, 2020, and when it launches, it will support over 90 languages.
With this preview build, Microsoft Edge Stable is currently at version 79.0.309.7 and appears to be one version ahead of the current stable version of Google Chrome, which is version 78.
Unlike the Beta, Dev, and Canary builds of Microsoft Edge, installing the stable version will completely replace the original Microsoft Edge. So, try RC only if you really want to try out Microsoft's new browser.
It should be mentioned that when Microsoft announced that it would develop a new browser based on Chromium, there were many who were concerned that Microsoft would further strengthen Google.
While these arguments may hold true, Microsoft has tried to develop an optimized, stable version of the browser by incorporating its own features.
So the new Edge browser has new features that make it stand out from Google Chrome.
For example, Microsoft Edge has a feature called Collections. The new feature allows you to collect similar websites on a particular topic, keeping the information organized and easily accessible.
If you're doing a homework assignment, you can create a collection of all the web pages you want so they're organized and easily accessible later.
The new Microsoft Edge will also feature the feature that the first Edge had, called Windows Defender Application Guard.
This feature allows you to launch a browser in a virtualized sandbox. This sandbox prevents the website from accessing the regular Windows environment, thus protecting you from exploit kits, malware, and other unwanted activities.
