On Tuesday afternoon, Elon Musk announced on his Twitter that he would donate 1 million trees to the project started by YouTuber MrBeast, which is called the #teamtrees project. Following his announcement, he even changed his Twitter name to “Treelon” Musk.
YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, also known as MrBeast, undertook to plant 20,000,000 trees as part of a challenge he accepted on Reddit for the 20,000,000 subscribers to his channel.
Donaldson also reached out to other YouTubers and launched the #teamtrees project on October 25. The project aims to raise $20 million to plant trees around the world. Each tree costs $1.
As of yesterday, #teamtrees has raised enough money to plant 6 million trees. The project raised $5 million in just two days and is counting.
All donations go directly to the Arbor Day Foundation, an American non-profit organization dedicated to tree conservation and education. The organization will begin planting trees worldwide in January and aims to complete the ambitious project within three years.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk asked MrBeast about the project on Twitter , and then in response to Marques Brownlee, pledged to donate 1 million trees on the spot. He then changed his Twitter name to “Treelon.”
MrBeast's response to this comment was enthusiastic:

MrBeast also tweeted: “To be clear, we all realize that 20 million trees won’t fix climate change. But more than 20 million trees is better than none! We want to take action because doing nothing is what got us here!”
