The big news from Red Hat didn't stop the development of Fedora 29. As we reported yesterday, the distribution released stable version 29 today.
Fedora 29 comes in three versions as usual. These are Fedora Server, Fedora Workstation for home users, and Fedora Atomic Host, for cloud and container Linux users.
All three versions come with common core features. For example, they all run on the Linux 4.19 Kernel.
So, as always, the new Fedora release comes with the latest versions of pre-installed applications, bug fixes, and improvements to system performance and functionality (*). The Fedora 29 base package includes updated compilers and programming languages such as Python 3.7, Perl 5.28. glibc 2.28, Gloang 1.11 and MySQL 8.
All Fedora 29 releases come with a modular repository. This is an optional software repository that allows you to install additional software versions. This way, you can keep your operating system up to date while maintaining the version of an application you need even when the default version installed in the distribution changes. This way, you can keep applications that you have tried, work, and don't want to upgrade.
The latest release of Fedora includes GNOME 3.3.1 as the default desktop. The new version offers better performance while using fewer system resources. This allows you to run more applications at the same time without performance issues.
This release also brings a new Podcasts app and automatically updates Flatpaks, Red Hat's global application distribution system.
All three versions of Fedora 29 are ready to download immediately.
(*) The asterisk refers to the fact that it improves functionality. Usually, as was the case with the last version 28, the first minor release was needed for everything to work properly. However, this is not a problem for the distribution, as the updates are immediate.
