Google Measure: During the last WWDC, Apple announced that it would add a measuring app to every iPhone called Measure. But Google also has a measuring app called Measure.
In fact, Google seems to have overtaken Apple, as the Measure app was added to Tango devices for a while. It seems that for the first time Google trusts AR technology enough to make the app available to all Android devices.
The Google Measure app will work with any phone that is compatible with Google's AR Core platform. How? Very simple: scan a scene with your phone and then drag a virtual line over the object you want to measure.

The app seems to be quite accurate, but it shouldn't be used professionally for now at least.
These types of measurements were used by specialized cameras for depth sensing. Today, the processing seems to be good enough to be able to get functional results from a simple old camera.
Of course, improvements are expected.
You can check if your device is compatible with AR Core from here and download the app directly from the Google Play Store.
