Media: Horror news shapes public opinion

The phenomenon is now completely established and, as it seems, fully accepted as a bad habit that no one wants but has to remind them of how difficult change is. The media exists to reflect public opinion, to give voice to those who are not heard but also to present the prevailing opinion.

But does it work the other way around?
In recent years, we have witnessed an explosion in the transfer of information, when once, to receive a letter from America, we had to wait for the ship for a quarter of a year. Television, radio (online or traditional) and the evolution of the internet, with all that the above includes (see social networks, live streaming), the transmitters of information transfer have increased dramatically.
The great power of the Media in relation to public opinion directly affects political-socio-economic events and can change the scene, serving up hay, garbage, ideologies, propaganda, advertisements and anything else you can imagine.
Where is all this served and how?
However, each transmitter also needs its receivers. This is where the problem begins. How can I stand out from the crowd and attract more receivers?
Below we will see some screenshots from today's sections of Google News in Greece. Please pay attention to the way in which the same information is served:

The headlines describe the same events, in a very different way. The conclusions are more or less known to everyone: terror and criminal Albanians sell. One headline talks about “probably of Albanian origin” and the other about “Albanians marked perpetrators” with a certainty that leaves no doubt about what happened in a case that is still being investigated by the authorities.
Thousands of small black holes turns into “Absolute terror.” Yes, they are catchy “journalistic” terms that are used shamelessly to gather more sheep.
RAPID DEVELOPMENTS: you start reading and at the end you wonder, what the hell is the development? But there are many who continue to step on it.
The classic chicken-and-egg question can be transformed into the following: does the Media shape public opinion or does public opinion lead the Media?
It is undeniable that the Media influences the audience they address and contributes to shaping public opinion.
Except that the Media also shape their choices, their targeting and their operation, from the audience they have or from the audience they want to acquire!!
So the Media, in addition to trying to shape public opinion because it is beneficial, will also seek the public opinion of their audience (profiling) in order to shape a course of action that will bring them more receivers.
So what we can say with certainty is that each site has the readers it deserves, but also each reader finds the information it deserves.
Happy Birthday
