Google has just announced Android P, the next major version of its mobile operating system. In a blog post, the company shared some information about the new Android and tools for developers to start creating apps for the new operating system.
The company said it will continue to update the beta version and release new builds frequently, and promised more news in May through this year's Google I/O.
Google has reportedly added "Cut Cutout" support to Android P, which means that the annoying notch found on the iPhone X will also be available on Android. The new tools it has made available to developers can create apps that automatically work in any cutouts, without having to worry about important information or navigation features not appearing.
The new operating system, however, brings updates to video playback and image compression. In Android P, Google adds support for HDR VP9 Profile 2 and HEIF. So developers can integrate them into their apps. The same goes for a new multi-camera API that will be for devices with dual rear-facing or dual front-facing cameras.
One of the most notable features of the new Android P, however, is the new message notifications. This will see rich notifications work with current Android notifications, which will come with more context and potentially suggested replies.
Other notable features include the ability to track users indoors using the Wi-Fi Round-Trip Time (RTT) service, as well as improvements to autofill, the Neural Networks API, and battery performance.
