Volvo Car UK has decided to enhance connectivity in its cars by installing a data SIM card in all its new models.
The data SIM card will be introduced in all 2020 car models, but there will also be the option to install it in carsthat customers have already received.
The SIM card will allow the driver and passengers to access the Internet at all times. The SIM card will include 100GB of Internet for one year. This is the most generous plan offered by a car manufacturer in the UK. For the first 12 months, the Internet will be free. This means that buyers do not pay anything more than the price of the car.
This specific plan is supported by Vodafone. The SIM card operates independently of the other devices that the car passengers have, so personal data (Internet) is not affected.

Inserting a data SIM card offers many benefits, as it allows access to applications , traffic information (that the driver may encounter on the road), safety services, etc. Furthermore, because the SIM card is integrated into the car, the signal is very strong, even while the vehicle is moving.
It essentially functions as a WiFi hotspot, to which can connect devices. It also offers access to all the infotainment apps integrated into the car's Sensus system, such as Spotify, TuneIn, Google Local Search, Yelp, Park and Pay, Record & Send, Glympse, Weather and WikiLocation.
It allows traffic information to be collected and displayed on the navigation screen and provides some alternative routes. Of course, updated versions of maps and navigation applications are also provided.
Automatic roaming covers 42 European countries.
Finally, the SIM card allows for the reception and transmission of alerts in the event of obstacles on the road. Through a cloud-based network, Volvo cars can give drivers early warnings about potentially dangerous conditions, reducing the risk of an accident.
