Following the US government's decision to block Huawei, many companies announced that they would stop working with the Chinese company. Google was the first to ban the company from receiving future Android updates . Other major companies, such as Intel, ARM and Panasonic, also decided to stop supplying Huawei with equipment.
Now, we have a new addition to the list of companies that have banned Huawei. The SD Association, which decides on microSD and SD cards, has decided to cut ties with the Chinese company. This means that Huawei will not be able to have microSD cards in its future devices.
According to information, the SD Association removed Huawei from the list of companies that can use microSD and SD cards, following an order from President Trump.
Naturally, this decision concerns future devices. Customers who already have a Huawei device will not be affected by this decision. The cards will continue to work normally in existing devices. However, future devices will not be able to use them.
Beyond the SD Association and the other companies, it appears that the Wi‑Fi Alliance has also imposed some restrictions on Huawei. The Wi‑Fi Alliance sets the standards for Wi‑Fi devices across the industry. According to information, the company “has temporarily removed” Huawei from the list of supported companies. This decision was made, once again, as a result of President Trump's orders.
We've already mentioned that Huawei has designed its own operating system, which could replace Android on devices . Being banned from microSD and SD cards could be a big blow. However, the Chinese company seems to have prepared for that as well. It has its own Nano memory cards, which it can use in its new devices. These memory cards are of course smaller than microSD cards.
