Apple is considering making major upgrades to the new iPhones that will be released in September. The upgrades will, among other things, affect the phones' batteries.
Reports say that the new iPhones will come with larger batteries.
However, this won't just apply to the new phones. Apple is also considering upgrading the batteries of the current iPhone lineup. Their design will likely remain the same, but there will be some changes.
Specifically, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the following models will get a battery upgrade: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The iPhone XS, currently has battery . With the upgrade, it is expected to get a huge increase of 25 percent. The iPhone XS Max's battery will increase by 15 percent. Finally, the iPhone XR, which now has a 2,942 mAh battery, will get the smallest increase, only 5 percent.
Reverse wireless charging capability
Apple is making such a big battery increase (especially on the iPhone XS and XS Max) because it wants to add a new wireless charging feature to its iPhones, which is already available on Android devices. It wants to give iPhones the ability to wirelessly charge other devices, using their own batteries.
Apple's goal is mainly to be able to charge the Apple Watch or AirPods when their charger is not available.
Changing existing iPhone batteries is necessary in order to be able to charge other devices but at the same time keep the iPhones themselves working efficiently.
Apple has already reached out to several companies to help it achieve its next step in battery upgrades and the introduction of reverse wireless charging. Among its partners will be Compeq, Unimicron, and TTM.
