The Google Hangouts service appears to be in its final days (or months), as Google is expected to shut it down sometime in 2020, according to a report by 9To5Google.
Although there is no official confirmation regarding the closure of the service by Google, a confidential source indicates that the end of Google Hangouts is near.
The news is not surprising as Google had stopped updating Google Hangouts for a while.
Historically, Google Hangouts was launched in 2013 and received a revision in 2017, in the form of business‑focused applications – Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet.
While Hangouts Chat, like Slack, was intended for easy conversations among the team and the organization, Hangouts Meet was introduced as a video‑call platform for quick, easy, and convenient meetings.
Both Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet are currently available for Web, Android and iOS users.
However, Hangouts as part of Google will continue in the form of Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet, and neither platform appears to be shutting down. Additionally, Google Hangouts is part of the Gmail web and users can still use it.
Additionally, it is expected that Google could unveil the launch of new messaging apps, replacing Google Hangouts.
