Facebook: Yesterday's outage was just a routine test

Did Facebook "crash" yesterday for you too? The same thing happened to many users in the world of the most popular social networking site!

On Monday, November 12, 2018, Facebook's webpage appeared to have an error, as only the following message was displayed: "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can". Its operation was therefore temporarily interrupted for many users and many were worried, mainly because using Messenger became very difficult. The other two social media, namely Instagram and WhatsApp, which belong to Facebook, did not seem to have any problems on the platform, however, some users stated that they had some errors.

Facebook stopped working for about half an hour but the fault was restored at 8:30 pm, local Greek time.

According to a statement made by a Facebook spokesperson to USA TODAY, the outage was not related to a malfunction or error but to a routine test. It is true that this particular test made many people worried, because it caused problems in sharing posts not only on Facebook but also on other social media owned by the company, such as Instagram and WhatsApp. The spokesperson also said that they did not want to cause any concern or inconvenience and for this reason they allowed access to users relatively quickly.

It was not clear whether the outage was due to a routine test or a result of a specific test error. Many people, of course, overreacted, especially in the US, as there were tweets on Twitter like #FacebookDown, while others said they were praying for their favorite social media. On the other hand, for some, the outage was a sign to return to their work, without paying much attention.
