Apple 's decision to no longer report iPhone sales has led many to conclude that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR must be facing a sales problem. And while it's a bit premature to conclude, the truth is that the company's effort to attract new customers is not on the right track, since it had to admit that there is a serious hardware problem with its revolutionary new model.
Apple warned on its official website that iPhone X models “may experience touch issues due to a component that may not be working properly in the display.” According to the company, this means that “the screen or part of the screen does not respond or responds partially to touch” and possibly “the screen reacts even if you do not touch it.”
Curiously, Apple didn't follow its usual line of saying that only a "small percentage" of its devices are affected. That's a term the company has used quite often in the past, including during the unfortunate (and ongoing) MacBook Butterfly keyboard fiasco.
The good news is that screen issues are fairly easy to spot, and if a user's iPhone X experiences the issue in question, "Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the screen on eligible devices free of charge." Additionally, if you've already paid for this repair, you're eligible for a refund, so be sure to claim it.
However, as Apple notes: “If your iPhone X has any damage that prevents the repair from being completed, such as a cracked screen, that issue must be resolved before the repair can be performed. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.”
