Bug in Google News app uses a large amount of your data

NewsA while ago, Google released a new app called Google News, which replaced Google Play Store and Google News & Weather. This new app aimed to beat its competitors, as it is the epitome of AI.

But as it turns out, the update app isn't as smart as it's advertised to be. As The Verge first discovered, many Android users have reported that Google's update app is using a huge amount of data in the background, without the user's knowledge.

On the Google News Help Forum, users have been reporting this issue since June, a month after the app was released. In September, the issue was acknowledged by the Google News Community Manager, stating that Google is investigating the issue and working on a fix for it. However, from user complaints, the issue appears to have not been addressed yet.

A Google News app user told The Verge: “The Google News app uses a huge amount of data in the background, without users knowing. The app used over 12 gigabytes of data on my phone while I was sleeping and my Wi-Fi was disconnected. This resulted in charges of up to $75.”

Some users are also reporting that the app used up their data, even when the “Download over Wi-Fi” feature was enabled. Google is currently investigating the issue and working to resolve the issue.

In any case, if you find yourself facing the Google News app error, the best thing you can do is disable the app. Or, simply stop using data in the background.

How do you stop Google News from using a lot of data?

  1. Go to Android Settings
  2. Go to Apps settings
  3. Tap on “Google News App” ⇒ Data Usage
  4. Disable Background Data
