Apple is becoming an increasingly large target of cryptomining attacks, and according to Check Point, these attacks increased by 400% in the last 2 weeks of September.
In a more recent report, Check Point researchers said they are investigating the reason for this sharp increase, adding that cryptominers were the most popular malware for the month of September. Coinhive continues to be the number one choice for malware creators.

The report reported that malware using Coinhive has infected 19% of organizations worldwide, while in second place comes Dorkbot, a trojan that steals sensitive information, with a rate of 7%.
Coinhive 's main rival , also known as Cryptoloot, comes in third place in the ranking. Its operation is identical to Coinhive's, but it holds a smaller percentage than Coinhive.
“Crypto mining continues to be the number one threat facing organizations today. The most interesting part of our research, however, was the sharp increase we observed in iPhones, as well as Macs, using the Safari browser. These attacks do not use any new techniques to infect their victims’ systems, so we still do not understand why these systems are being targeted.”
“Attacks like this demonstrate that employees’ mobile devices are not properly protected, something that every organization should check. When every employee has critical information on their mobile device, it is important to be able to ensure its availability, integrity and confidentiality.
