Since the launch of Apple's Animojis app, many Android have been dying to use these funny 3D icons on their smartphones. But until now, they were only available on expensive devices like those from Apple or Samsung.
However, a developer at XDA Developershas developed a Nokia 6.1-based Camera port that will allow you to get AR Emojis on your Android device. Whether it's an Android 8.1 Oreo or Android 9 Pie device, the port will work on any Android model.
The Nokia 6.1 is the latest Android One device from HMD global. It is also one of the first Nokia devices to feature Animojis, like Apple, which are known as 3D Personas. On the Nokia device, 3D Personas work in a similar way to Samsung’s AR Emojis. The Camera app uses facial recognition to turn your face into a 3D model.
The camera port is based on the Nokia Pro camera feature. While the app has a few bugs and is very unstable so far, it's worth a try if you've always wanted to use 3D icons.
The developer noted that the Nokia Camera app port's 3D persona feature doesn't work on all devices. While it works on the Galaxy Note 9 and OnePlus 6, it failed to work on the Google Pixel 2 XL.
Apart from that, panorama, live bokeh and selfie bokeh modes also do not work, while slow-motion and Timelapse mode only work on some devices.
