There are times when innovation and great imagination come to our minds in the most inappropriate places, where the best we can do at that moment is to jot down our idea on a piece of paper or even a napkin. In fact, many programmers sketch out their ideas on a piece of paper and then proceed to create the corresponding code. But what if those ideas could be transformed directly from that piece of paper into thousands of lines of code? Microsoft, called “Sketch2Code,” does just that.
This app allows developers to draw wireframe UI sketches on paper and generate easy-to-use source code for a given design. It uses artificial intelligence and automation to identify given designs and develop code from them.
The AI system behind this service has been trained on huge datasets to enable object detection for a wide range of object types. The model then generates HTML codes for different elements, identifying the positions of the elements and generating the final codes for the entire design layout.
For now, it supports basic visual app elements like images, labels, buttons, texts, and paragraphs. Hopefully, there will be more additions to the app that would make it easier to automatically generate codes for more complex designs.
But the best thing about the app is that the code can be exported not only to HTML, but also to XAML and UWP (Universal Windows Platform). So you can take the codes from scratch and use them in any way to create your own apps.
This app from Microsoft is free and available to everyone. You can try Sketch2Code here.
