The world's fastest sport is getting a facelift after Formula 1 announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The deal, which was announced last weekend, will provide greater accuracy and speed to driver statistics.
AWS will become the official cloud and machine learning provider of Formula 1, with the company’s logo being promoted on television. Through the partnership, Formula 1 will move its existing infrastructure to AWS data centers, and will begin using new data analytic tools that will provide more accurate statistics that change every second.
AWS and Formula 1
The collaboration is a result of Formula 1's efforts to upgrade the sport by providing detailed driver statistics in real time.
Moving forward, the AWS platform will process vast amounts of data to provide split-second insights. For example, by processing the way a driver turns, it will be possible to calculate when it is the best time to change tires, or whether the driver is giving 100% of his or her potential.
“For our needs, AWS provides the greatest speed, scalability, reliability and breadth of services among all other providers,” said Pete Samara, Formula 1’s director of innovation and digital technology.
“Using Sagemaker and Amazon ’s machine learning , we can provide these accurate statistics to our viewers and commentators in real time. We are excited to have such powerful computers at our disposal. The quality and quantity of aerodynamic testing we will be able to perform will be second to none.”
