How to make BitTorrent faster with simple steps?
To increase torrent download speed, you can always find many online ways:
- Install a Lightweight Torrent Client
To increase your torrent download speed, the first step you need to take is to install a Lightweight Torrent Client. Although BitTorrent is one of the most popular torrent clients out there, it comes with a lot of bloated apps and other features. So, go for uTorrent if you want faster torrent downloads. You can also install qBittorrent, which is another Lightweight Torrent Client.
The reason for using a Lightweight Torrent Client is that it focuses only on downloading torrents and speeds up the transfer rate. uTorrent and qBittorrent are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- Choose a "healthy" torrent
To choose a healthy torrent, you first need to understand the concepts of seeder and leecher. These two terms always confuse someone who is new to torrenting, so we will try to clarify what they are in simple terms. A seeder is someone who has a complete copy of a file that is shared across the network and that you intend to download. A leecher is someone who does not have a complete copy of the file and has registered with the network to download that file. Once the leecher has fully downloaded the file, he will also become a seeder.
For a high torrent download speed, the number of seeders should be greater than the number of leechers. The more seeders, the healthier your torrent will be. Therefore, when choosing a torrent, make sure that the seeder-leecher match is appropriate.
- Add an exception to Windows Firewall
Windows Firewall may block the torrent client. So, adding an exception to Windows Firewall will be a good option to increase the torrent download speed. First, go to Options > Preferences > Connections , then select Add Windows Firewall exception and then click Apply .
Warning: Do not permanently disable Windows Firewall, as it leaves your computer exposed.
- Change General Settings to optimize uTorrent
To make your torrent faster, make sure you have selected all three options shown in the following image. To find these options, go to Options > Preferences > General and then select Append .!ud to incomplete files and Pre-allocate all files. Usually, the third option is already checked, but if it isn't, select that too.
- Limit upload and download rate
You can speed up your torrent download like qBitTorrent, BitTorrent, uTorrent etc. by limiting the upload and download rate. But first, you should understand that torrents “exist” because of users uploading. So turning it off or setting it to 1kB/s will not be a wise choice. But at the same time, you don’t want to set the upload rate to the maximum, as this can affect your own connection.
Setting your upload speed to around 70-80% of your maximum speed would be a great option. To configure these options, go to Properties > Bandwidth and then set the total upload speed limit to 80%.
- Change the number of connections
Once you have set the upload/download rate, you can now change the number of connections to avoid any overload. Go to Properties > Bandwidth and then set the maximum number of connections to 150 and the maximum number of connected peers per torrent to 100. Leave the upload slot as is.
- Add more trackers
Trackers are a good way to optimize your torrent download speed. Adding new and faster trackers to your existing torrents can increase your download speed by adding new seeds and peers to your connection. The method of adding trackers to your torrent is not that complicated, as all you need to do is add these links to your existing trackers. When adding a new tracker, make sure you don't delete the existing ones.
To add new trackers, first right-click on the torrent you are downloading and then select Properties. In the General tab, you will find the list of trackers. Scroll to the bottom and add trackers from the list below.
