The difficulties for Apple have not stopped since it admitted to intentionally degrading the performance of iPhone devices, and this time a law firm is suing the tech giant on behalf of about 64,000 users.
The Korean law firm Hannuri Law is seeking compensation for at least 63,767 users who experienced problems with Apple products. This is the largest lawsuit against the company, as it is being asked to pay $11.9 million in damages, which means each user will receive about $200.
Apple, for its part, has not commented on the matter but will certainly be preparing for court day.
For those who don't know, the giant said in late December that the iPhone 6, 6s, and iPhone 7 were tampered with in performance to reduce the effects of degraded batteries.
The company explained that a worn-out battery module can lead to unexpected shutdowns, so what it had to do was “tweak” performance by reducing CPU power in order to avoid the device from crashing. While Apple said it did this to help users, many accused it of a deliberate action aimed at pushing consumers towards its new products.
The giant then launched a battery replacement program and simultaneously released a software update that allowed users to disable the performance throttling if it was active.
However, despite Apple's efforts, its customers do not seem to be satisfied, and as if that were not enough, many are accusing it of violating consumer rights.
