Mozilla on Monday released the second version of its latest Firefox 59 “Quantum” web browser for all supported platforms, fixing several issues and adding various improvements.
Firefox 59.0.2 is here to address a CPU and memory issue caused by third-party applications on various computers, though Mozilla didn't say whether it affects all supported platforms. It also improves page performance when hardware acceleration is enabled.
It also fixes a bug that prevented users from using certain keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl + C, on websites that use those keys with the resistFingerprinting feature enabled, and fixes an issue for users who want to reload proxy settings by configuring an automatic proxy configuration URL.
“Users who have configured an ‘Auto-Configure Proxy URL’ and wish to reload the proxy settings from the URL will find the Reload button disabled in the ‘Connection Settings’ window when they select ‘Preferences/Options -> Network Proxy -> Settings’.
Firefox 59.0.2 also addresses crashes that may occur when attempting to cancel a print job when it is almost finished and an audio issue on various BSD systems such as FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, and DragonFly BSD.
For Windows 7 users who use touchscreens or even some third-party office applications like StickyPassword that interact with Firefox in some way through its accessibility services, Mozilla is fixing a bunch of random browser crashes that have been reported recently.
The updated version is also being released via OTA (over-the-air) updates and all users are encouraged to install the new version as soon as possible by opening the About Firefox dialog, waiting for the new version to be downloaded, and restarting the web browser for the new version to be installed.
