A fake extension of the popular Adblock Plus was available alongside the real one in the official Chrome web store, where it appears that 37,000 users downloaded it and apparently installed it on their computers. Are you one of them?.

If you use Adblock Plus with Chrome and downloaded the extension very recently, it's a good idea to check what you've installed. A fake Adblock Plus extension managed to get past Google's verification process and was being offered in the official Chrome Web Store alongside the real one. Google removed the fake app after a tweet from SwiftOnSecurity, but by then, it had been around long enough for 37,000 people to be fooled and downloaded. While that's a drop in the ocean for a service that has 10 million users, it's still a problem for those unfortunate enough to have downloaded it.
The fake app, once installed, sends intrusive ads. Unfortunately, it is unclear what else it can do or if it has even more negative consequences, which we do not yet know.
