Android: Recent research gives us a closer look at the apps that are most frequently banned due to various reasons that always have security at their core.
On iOS, the blacklist includes WhatsApp, Pokemon Go, WinZIP, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, and CamScanner. The reason they are considered banned apps is that WhatsApp can send your address book, WinZip can send SMS messages, and Plex requires camera access and can even expose your device name and location.
On Android, although some top applications are included, we find titles that have recorded millions of downloads such as Wild Crocodile Simulator, Where's My Droid Pro and Chicken Puzzle.
The main reason why these apps were banned on Android is that they include malware, send IMEI and data without encryption, or track the user's location without their consent.
Of course, you will tell us that these concerns are exaggerated since in order for an application to access some of the aforementioned information, it needs the user's permission.
However, it should be noted that companies pay great attention to pre-installed applications as data transmission is carried out without encryption. The research reveals that applications that do not ask for user consent, but in most cases these applications are not legitimate.
Also, on iOS devices, the Facebook, Pandora and Yelp applications are treated with more caution by administrators as they can breach security issues, while on Android, Uber, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger could include vulnerabilities that increase the likelihood of breaches.
