Chromium: New VR features coming to Opera, Vivaldi and Chrome

Recently, information was released about the new VR capabilities of Chromium, which forms the basis of Chrome OS and Google Chrome.

Apparently the Chromium team is working on a set of new virtual reality features for the web browser, which means we should expect several new pleasant changes to popular browsers Opera, Vivaldi, and Google Chrome.

While the team is currently working on Google's Daydream View headset, you can try out the VR experience in the latest version of Google Chrome 61 for GNU/Linux, Mac, and Windows.

"Users can browse Chrome and directly connect their device to a Daydream View headset. This is just the beginning for browsing the web in VR," said a Chromium spokesperson.

When VR capabilities are perfected, users will be able to connect their VR headsets and browse the web in virtual reality. Essentially, you'll be able to interact with a website, follow links between web pages, and more.

It is also noteworthy that you will have the ability to move between 2D and immersive viewing on websites that support the latest WebVR technologies.

As we mentioned above, however, until the project is completed, you can try the VR experience in Google Chrome 61 or Opera 49.

In other news, Opera 49 is the first version with a built-in VR 360 player that allows users to enjoy VR content with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or any other OpenVR compatible VR headset.
