Doxagram: It's now official, Instagram suffered a massive data breach and according to the latest information, an unknown hacker managed to steal personal information from over 6 million Instagram accounts.
Just yesterday, it was reported that Instagram had patched a critical API vulnerability that allowed an attacker to gain access to phone numbers and email addresses for verified high-profile accounts.
However, the Instagram hack appears to be more serious than we initially thought.
More than 6 million Instagram users, (politicians, athletes, companies and many others) can find their Instagram profile information, such as email addresses and phone numbers, on a website called Doxagram.
All of the above information is available for sale to anyone interested….
The Instagram hacker launched Doxagram, an Instagram search service where anyone can search for stolen information for $10 per account.
The news comes three days after data from Selena Gomez's Instagram account was leaked. Selena Gomez, who has more than 125 million followers, and the leaked data included nude photos of her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
However, Instagram has not confirmed whether the recent data breach is related to the leak of Selena Gomez's account.
The company had already notified all verified users of the service via emails and encouraged them to be cautious if they receive any suspicious or unidentified phone call, text message or email.
With email addresses and phone numbers circulating freely on the internet, the hackers' next step could be to use this information in combination with social engineering techniques to gain more information, even on other services.
Instagram users would do well to immediately use two-factor authentication on their accounts, combined with a strong password.
