A 14-year-old girl from Lovington, New Mexico, died last weekend from an electric shock because her smartphone was plugged into a nearby outlet while she was taking a bath.
Although it is still unclear what exactly happened, the family of the unfortunate Madison Coe stated that while taking a bath, the minor either attempted to connect her phone to the charger or grabbed it while it was plugged in.
Anyway, as soon as the girl touched the phone she was electrocuted with a burn mark on her hand.
Of course, it goes without saying that the young girl's death was not caused by a faulty device but by the combination of water and electricity.
Because young people are addicted to their smartphones, the family of the 14-year-old girl is sharing the tragedy to raise awareness about the dangers associated with using devices plugged into a bathroom outlet.
The family has started a Facebook asking everyone to share their message so that as many teenagers as possible can be informed about the issue.
"This tragedy should not happen again. We want at least something good to come out of our story. We do not use our cell phones in the bathroom while they are plugged in. It is sad that some people are not aware of the danger in such cases. We hope that our child will be the last case of death from electrocution in the bathroom," the family said.
There is no information about the brand of the smartphone, but this information is useless since no cell phone could have saved the young girl's life once she touched the wall charger.
Smartphones are indeed water resistant and have an IP68 rating, but that doesn't mean you can use them while they're connected to the charger as water and electricity remain a deadly combination regardless of any new technology.
