Google News Minimal Starting Today: Google today unveiled a new look for its News. The redesign is modern, free from any “clutter.” It emphasizes what you’re looking for when you’re browsing through dozens of news stories.
According to Google for Google News:
“To make news more accessible and easier to navigate, we redesigned the desktop site with a new focus on facts, different perspectives, and more control for users.”
By observing the news feed, you will easily find the scanned content.
Google's Story card format allows users to quickly locate key information such as the news source, title, and publication time.
Story cards also allow users to see different perspectives of the same story, encouraging readers to gain a more in-depth view of the topic.
And if you look at the top of the page, you'll see a new navigation bar for "Headlines," "Local," and "For You."
“Local” is exactly what it sounds like and will show you tabs with stories that are local to you. There’s also “For You,” a feature that customizes your news feed based on your interests.
The icing on the cake is the Fact Check block, a new service on the platform. The new service makes it much easier to judge the credibility of a story. The recent “disease” of the media with the spread of fake news is well known.
This feature is only available to US readers for now, but Google plans to slowly roll it out globally. Until then, you'd do well to cross-reference the news you read and share with your friends.
