Microsoft recently announced that it has released a preview version of the “next generation” Skype, which completely changes the application.
Skype's new preview app was initially released only for Android, but the company promised that it will soon be released for iOS, Windows, and Mac OS X. The new app, according to the company, "is designed to create, play, share, and generally 'do more' with its users."

Note: The Skype for Android preview is only available in the following countries: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Philippines, and Pakistan.
Microsoft describes the new app in the following way on the Skype blog.
“Rebuilt from the ground up, the new Skype dramatically improves the ways you can connect with the people you love and, of course, your conversations. We’ve made group conversations more vibrant, expressive and—most importantly—personalized, so you can chat the way you want.
The new features Microsoft has added are options to choose a color and customize it for the app's UI, the new emoticon reaction feature in chats or video calls, and the new highlights feature that lets you create a folder of photos and videos, and easily share them.
There's also a new capture feature that instantly opens the camera when you turn it on. You can use it to take photos or videos, add text to them, or place emoticons on them before sharing them with others.
Another new feature is the search panel supported by plugins and bots to give you information from various sources.
