Apple is working on a brand new iPad Pro that will come with a bezel-less design and launch next month, and now Huawei is preparing to introduce an upgraded device that will compete with Microsoft's Surface Pro series.
The new generation of Huawei MateBook will be unveiled on May 23 in Germany, which is a bit ironic given that Microsoft is also holding a Surface press conference in Shanghai on the same day.
The first-generation MateBook wasn't a huge success, although it sold well, but with the new model Huawei is trying to offer more choices to customers, including three different configurations in the series.
Evan Blass says Huawei will launch three new models called the MateBook E, MateBook X, and MateBook D, with model names Pascal, Bell, and Watt.
Most likely, configurations will start from the M line of Intel processors and go up to the Intel Core i7, while the amount of RAM will increase as you choose a better chip.
Of course, the new MateBook will adopt the 2-in-1 form factor, which means it will feature a detachable keyboard that allows it to double as a laptop and tablet, whenever you want.
While Microsoft hasn't given us much information about the next Surface series, the company is expected to reveal more details next week in Shanghai.
A brand new Surface model is unlikely, as hardware upgrades to the existing generation are expected, including newer chips, possibly Kaby Lake, more RAM and storage, and a possible 4K display upgrade.
Panos Panay, the man behind Surface , has said that the Surface Pro 5 isn't ready yet, so it will be interesting to see how the Redmond-based tech giant deals with the growing competition in the 2-in-1 market from more and more companies.
