It seems that lately, it has become fashionable for some to hack giant screens in crowded public places and broadcast inappropriate scenes.
This also happened at one of the busiest stations, in the Delhi metro, where the giant screen that is there for advertising purposes began broadcasting porn, leaving the hundreds of bystanders speechless.
A series of videos, which later went viral on social media, reportedly played continuously for several minutes at the busy Rajiv Chowk metro station in Connaught Palace on April 9. The screen, which is believed to be divided into six sections, shows pornographic content playing in the bottom right corner.
Rajiv Chowk station is a major hub for changing lines and always has a huge crowd not only on weekdays but also on weekends.
While those responsible claimed they knew nothing about the incident, they have nevertheless launched an internal investigation.
“From the preliminary investigation, it was found that the incident took place on April 9 at approximately 5:00 PM. The Smart LED TV system was under assignment and the Wi-Fi port was accessible. Prima facie, according to the security cameras, three men ran a porn clip via their mobile on this screen. Efforts are being made to identify these men.
"This kind of system interference will not be possible in the future, once the software is programmed and centrally controlled. Meanwhile, during the awarding process, the contractor should ensure password protection," Dayal added.
According to metro officials, there are five such LED screens under commission, at five stations. “The aim of these screens is to disseminate information to passengers through various multimedia tools, such as photos and videos,” said an official.
So far, no complaint has been made by the metro.
