Another smartphone battery exploded – this time it was a Samsung Note 4, which blew up in the middle of the night in Guizhou, southwest China.
The cellphone was plugged in and charging next to a five-year-old girl when it exploded at around 4 a.m. The explosion caused burns to the girl’s face, hair and hands, as well as to the bedspread, Guizhou’s Metropolitan Daily reported. As a result of the explosion, the girl was unable to eat, talk or sleep due to the pain from the burns. There is a high possibility that she will be permanently scarred by the accident, her parents said.
The girl's father, Feng Lingling, told local newspapers that the phone that exploded was purchased in August last year in Puding County, near where the family lives in Anshun. It cost 2,699 yuan ($390).
The retailer that sold the phone confirmed that it was a genuine product to Guizhou Metropolitan Daily.
However, Samsung sent a specialist to check Feng's phone after the explosion and insisted that the battery it was using was actually fake.
The South Korean electronics giant said in a statement: "We would like to express our concern for the injured and have contacted our customer to find out the cause of the problem."
