Although many of you probably didn't know it, Microsoft has its own social network that's all about sharing photo collages with your friends across the site.
Unfortunately for those of you who just discovered So.cl, Microsoft has decided to retire the social network for a reason the company doesn't want to share. Of course, it's not hard to understand why. The service isn't very successful, and the small percentage of users who participated in it are living proof that there's no point in continuing to update and add new features.
In an announcement today, Microsoft revealed that So.cl will be shutting down on March 15, but did not provide further details about this decision.
"Socl has been a wonderful outlet for creative expression for people who share the same views or not. Through this community, we have also learned many lessons and received new innovative ideas," a company spokesperson said.
Without a doubt, So.cl will not be missed by many since few people used it. The social network, which is similar to Google+ , was created in December 2011 in an experimental stage before finally becoming available to everyone in May 2012.
So.cl is a project of Microsoft's FUSE Labs and was created with the help of students from the universities of Washington, Syracuse, and New York.
Although Microsoft has never released details about the number of So.cl users, it is believed that the number never reached the company's expectations.
