Microsoft's Play Anywhere effort is gaining traction these days, and with the company working hard to add cross-play to as many games as possible, it makes perfect sense for Xbox gamers to demand mouse and keyboard support on their devices.

And while Microsoft has been tight-lipped about its plans, Xbox chief Phil Spencer confirmed in a tweet that this is indeed one of the features the software giant is currently exploring. Spencer, however, hasn't given a target date for this new functionality, though many people expect it to be added to the Halo Wars 2 debut that launches next week.
Why would anyone need both mouse and keyboard support for the Xbox One? You might ask. With Microsoft investing so heavily in cross-play support, it's not hard to see why PC users could have a big advantage over Xbox controllers ,especially in games that require increased precision, like FPS titles.
Microsoft is already releasing previews of Xbox One updates to Insider members ,so if work on this new feature is progressing well, testers should start seeing the updated apps in the coming weeks.
For now, Halo Wars 2 won't come with keyboard and mouse support, but it could be added at a later time when the Xbox One is updated with such functionality. Given that Halo Wars 2 won't have cross-play support out of the box anyway, this isn't a big deal, so the company could synchronize the release of these two features later this year.
