But a new report from Business Korea reveals that the Galaxy X phone could actually be launched during the first quarter of next year. The report refers to anonymous sources who disclosed that the folding Galaxy X phone will be available on the market in the first quarter of 2018. However, the company could present an original Galaxy X later this year.
The new estimated launch date takes into account the development and the massive production plans of the polyimide tape that is expected to be incorporated into the Galaxy X. The polyimide tape is actually a key component in foldable phones, due to the fact that it is made from flexible material.
The film has high heat resistance and the ability to remain stable across a wide range of temperatures. It takes about three months for mass production and component procurement, which means that the launch date for the Galaxy X is very likely to be in the first half of 2018.
Rumors say that the Galaxy X will be a 5-inch smartphone that can also transform into a tablet . Samsung is said to be developing 100,000 units of this device in order to test the market reaction and decide whether to appeal to consumers or not.
