To buy a piece of history, you have to spend a lot. The oldest Nikon camera still in existence (the only one in the world) was sold for $406,000 at an auction in Austria.
So after years it became the most expensive camera ever manufactured by the company.
The device, reported to be the third camera manufactured by Nikon in April 1948, still wears its original F2 Nikkor H lens. It also features the original and extremely rare double strap case.
As stated on the frame of the camera, it was manufactured “in occupied Japan” (see the image at the end of the post).
The camera was initially released simply as Nikon, but later took the name "Nikon One" after the addition of the "M" and the "S" models later released by the Japanese company.
Below you will find some photos of the wonderful antique.
The Nikon One was initially valued by the auction house at around $190,000, although bids opened at $95,000. They later reached the final amount of $406,000, including various fees and insurance premiums.
The sale took place at the auction organized by WestLicht Photographica in Austria. The Austrian house has managed to amass a collection of over 600 antique cameras, lenses and photography accessories, including two amazing Leica guns, as well as a beautiful Leica M3 camera.
