Soon, WhatsApp's video calling feature will be available for Android, iOS, and Windows Phones!
Last month, there were reports of the addition of video calling capability to some of the beta versions of the WhatsApp app.
Today, WhatsApp has officially launched its video calling feature for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone, for more than a billion users around the globe. With the introduction of this feature, WhatsApp is trying to catch up with its competitors, such as Facebook's Messenger app, Skype, FaceTime, Viber, Apple's LINE, and the recently launched Google Duo.
To use the new feature, you will need to tap the call button in the top right corner of the conversation, which will display a question asking if you want to make a voice or video call to your friend. To use the video call, you will simply need to select “Video Call” from this screen.
While you're talking, you can mute, switch between the front and rear cameras, or press the red button to end the call. The user interface is slightly different for Android and iPhone in terms of where the video feed appears, as well as the size, line-up, and placement of the buttons.
Recently, WhatsApp added support for GIF images for iOS and began testing a Snapchatthat lets you share images on which you can draw or add stickers, in a Status.
The new feature is expected to be available worldwide in the coming days, as the feature rolls out to all platforms worldwide.
