Has Photoshop sometimes excited us more than it should have?
If not everyone, most of us like to upload photos to our social media. If not everyone, most of us like to edit them “slightly” before uploading them. And what program could be better than Photoshop? The truth is that Photoshop is easy to use and quite effective. But do we often overdo it with editing? Probably yes, according to Nathaniel Dodson who shows us in his video which techniques it would be good to avoid.
The video was published on his personal YouTube channel, tutvid, and shows us the “bad” techniques. For example, “bevel and emboss” in texts or using a specific color to emphasize a black and white photo should not be used with enthusiasm. We often have the impression that a black and white photo needs the color red to become more artistic and impressive. Nathaniel shows us through examples that the image is not aesthetically beautiful with such a high contrast.
Another tool that we should pay special attention to is the “healing brush” which is used to correct an imperfection. Specifically, Nathaniel suggests that we not use it on the original photo but on a second layer, so that if we make a mistake we can return to the original which will not have been damaged.
It would be a good idea for everyone to heed the advice in the video, especially those who use Photoshop for professional purposes.
