Microsoft has released an updated version of Skype Preview for Windows Insiders. The app will work on Windows 10 PCs and Mobile and will allow you to send and receive SMS messages directly from your PC or Windows Phone.
We should clarify that this particular feature is different from Skype's existing paid service, as with it you will be able to send and receive messages via your phone, or via your computer, completely free of charge.
Insiders will need to set Skype as their primary SMS program from the app's settings.
Microsoft says it will make this version of Skype that can send free SMS available to the public within the next two months, as it plans to add additional features and improvements.
Some of these are already in the latest preview build and allow for hiding conversations, an add button for contacts that will work directly from web pages, and more.
There is currently no information on whether the free SMS feature will also be released for Android or iOS devices.
