Google Fuchsia: Unexpected news from Google that it is reportedly developing a completely new operating system. Yes, not just an upgrade to Android or Chrome OS, but a new system that is not based on the Linux kernel.
It's called Fuschia, and while Google hasn't officially announced anything about the operating system, it has released details on GitHub with the cryptic description "Pink + Purple == Fuchsia (a new Operating System)."

Android Police dug deeper into the documentation and found some interesting information. First of all, the operating system uses a new Magenta kernel, which is designed to compete with IoT-oriented operating systems like FreeRTOS or ThreadX. The difference here is that Magenta seems designed to run on everything from smartphones to desktops.
Meanwhile, Dart is used as the main programming and support language, and Flutter indicates that the operating system will likely use Material Design as its user interface.
This doesn't necessarily mean that Google has plans to release Fuchsia beyond IoT devices. It could simply be that it wants a more lightweight operating system that can run on any future hardware products. Still, the potential for widespread adoption remains exciting, especially as the line between Android and ChromeOS becomes increasingly blurred.
As for why Google hasn't said anything about the operating system to date: Brian Swetland – a senior engineer at Google who has worked on Android and the T-Mobile Sidekick OS – says the decision is to build an open source operating system from scratch, which means some details haven't been finalized yet.
Eventually, things will have to be made public with evidence, said Christopher Lane, another Google engineer. Until then, we can only speculate.
