Servo: Mozilla's new browser engine released

As promised, the Mozilla Foundation has released the first Nightly build of Servo. Servo is the new web browser engine the foundation is testing, and this is the first tech demo.servo

Jack Moffitt, head of the Servo project, said in March that “a next-generation browser engine should focus on performance and robustness.”

Packages for MacOS and Linux are already available and can be downloaded from the end of the post. The Mozilla Foundation promises that the next packages will be for Windows and the Android mobile operating system.

Moffitt previously said that the browser's UI will be "written entirely in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript" and that it will "include a lot of rich animations."

It should be noted that the project is simply a tech demo that aims to give developers the opportunity to play and experiment with Servo.

It remains to be seen whether the project will move forward.
