The producer of dozens of films including The Expendables and London Has Fallen called Barack Obama a “coward” for failing to force Google to remove links that lead to piracy. Avi Lerner said the government stands in fear of Google and anyone who doesn’t help stop piracy “should go to jail.”
Veteran film producer Avi Lerner is known for creating the Expendables trilogy, and he seems to be very good at the blame game.
"The government, and the president, are cowards. They are afraid of Google, and that's how we lose millions," he told AFP, as reported by TorrentFreak.
As the founder of production companies Nu Image and Millennium Films, Lerner is familiar with piracy. In 2014, an early copy of The Expendables 3 was leaked online, much to the company's dismay.
UK authorities later arrested two men in connection with the leak in 2014, followed by a third in 2015, but the culprits have not yet been found in the United States. So Mr. Lerner complains about the lack of help from Google (and Barack Obama).
"It's a big problem and something that I don't know if anyone can stop, because the government, the president, and Congress are afraid of Google," Lerner said.
The film producer says Google has no incentive to stop piracy because piracy creates it.
But here he misses the mark with his blaming, as piracy lives and reigns outside of Google's ecosystem and will continue even if Google disappears from the internet.
But Lerner thinks he has the solution.
"You should tell Google to stop piracy. There should be a law that will put anyone in jail or punish anyone who helps piracy, or doesn't help stop piracy," he said.
It's unclear whether Mr. Lerner was angry or if he really doesn't understand how the whole piracy system works, but suggesting imprisonment to stop piracy is probably not the suggestion.
Imagine if this particular punishment were to be extended to President Barack Obama if he does not coordinate with DMCA rulings.
Who is the president after all? Barack Obama or the DMCA?
