The future of traditional delivery companies is uncertain as Google has filed a patent for an “autonomous courier.”
Google's proposed autonomous courier patent calls for a truck with lockers that can be unlocked with a PIN. So the person who has purchased something will know the number of their locker, as well as the PIN to open it.
Of course, Google is currently busy testing autonomous vehicles, so distributors shouldn't worry about losing their jobs. After all, we've heard of too many patents that never made it to market.
However, the event serves to remind us of how much the upcoming technology will affect the labor market and beyond.
