After making Windows 10 free to users running genuine Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, Microsoft has just announced an experimental program aimed at its "customers" who use pirated copies.
Microsoft's Terry Myerson confirmed today that the experiment will soon launch in the United States, and if successful, will expand to other countries.
If you're using Windows 10 and can't activate it, or a pirated previous version of Windows that's eligible for a free upgrade if it were legit, don't rejoice... you won't get a Windows 10 license for free.
Microsoft just announced that it will become easier for those running non-genuine Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10.
“One of the most interesting things we learned from the upgrade is the creative efforts our customers with non-genuine Windows are making to upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.”
Myerson said.
So Microsoft will start the experiment in the United States, where the company will offer “a one-click Get Genuine opportunity through the Windows Store.”
For those of you who haven't activated Windows 10 yet, Microsoft released two cumulative updates today. One of them adds an easier way to activate.
