18-year-old Valentinos Tzekas contacted us to share a very practical application. The application he developed is called Near – Check Who's Nearby and aims to bring people closer in the digital age.
'Near – Check Who's Nearby' can bring people together quickly and easily so they don't waste time searching for Facebook check-ins or making countless phone calls to see who's where! Near: “Less Planning… More Time Together!
With 'Near' you can see on the map who is near you within a certain distance! Don't know the areas well? You can instantly and easily meet your friends by getting directions via Google Maps!
You can also see some basic information about the acquaintances & strangers near you... and if you're not covered... you can see their profiles on social networks!
Valentinos Tzekas tells us how the application came about:
After the Panhellenic exams I wanted to spend my summer doing something really creative! Then I noticed that Facebook check-ins, which are very fashionable especially in Greece, had a major problem.. They were very general!
“Andreas was with Dionysius at 'such and such' location!” But if you're new to the city, you don't know the places.. so you have to search..A LOT!
Also, in the chaos of the news feed it is now impossible to locate your friends' check-ins so you have to call them! 'Near – Check Who's Nearby' aims to bring people closer, simply and quickly! You are out in a square, in a park, at a conference.. you open 'Nearby' and immediately see on the map which people are near you!
I always wanted to create my own Startup, and take it off... on a global scale!
[pullquote]It's my passion![/pullquote]
I think the first step has already been taken with 'Near'! No one knows the future, but I will try to bring it as close as possible to my ambitions!!
Of course, I will stay in this industry forever, I can't imagine myself doing anything else!
It's my passion!
“Things seem to be difficult in Greece. Especially now with the capital controls that are distancing Greek businesses from the outside world!
There are many problems, but there are capable Greeks who are still trying to innovate and support their dreams and their country! We hope that the Greek state will support young and old in the business world!”
The application has not yet been released on Google Play, but you can register on the developer's website to be the first to make it available.
