UBIK UNO: A small company, previously unknown, is taking on the likes of Samsung and Apple by offering a high-end smartphone at a very low price. And because times are tough, it decided to turn to Kickstarter.
The Ubik Uno promises to deliver impressive specs at affordable prices.
The Uno will run Android Lollipop and will have no bezel holding the display, which will be True HD made of Gorilla Glass.
The Uno will come in an aluminum frame, with a 5.5-inch IPS 1920×1080 display made of Gorilla Glass 3, as we mentioned above. But what's quite impressive is the processor: a 64-bit MediaTek octa-core, clocked at 2.2 GHz, will be supported by 3GB of RAM.
At least on paper, the camera will be a 20-megapixel shooter with low-light autofocus, with a shooter that can handle 4K and 30fps video (as well as slow-motion, 120fps at 720p). There will also be a 5MP camera on the front.
The Uno will be powered by a 3100 mAh battery, and will feature NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and 16 GB of storage that can be expanded with a MicroSD card up to 64 GB.
The company does not mention the dimensions of the device or its weight. Unlike several recent smartphones, the device will not have a fingerprint sensor.
As we mentioned above, there isn't much information about Ubik Mobile other than what is stated on their page as "an international team of engineers with over 15 years of experience building mobile phones around the world", with teams in Seoul, South Korea and China.
It sounds good, but it would also be good to pay attention to crowdfunded projects.
Either way, the company says it will sell the Uno online direct-to-consumers to keep costs down and avoid carrier requirements. The 4G LTE Uno will ship unlocked by default, and will be GSM-only.
Crowdfunding backers can pre-order for $280. The expected retail price after crowdfunding will be $345.
